Thoughts on; How to practice when the world’s on fire.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. How do you practice yoga when you’re bombarded with horrific news from around the world on a daily basis. I know that if I’m not looking after myself, things can get to me more quickly. I get so despondent, I feel hopeless and powerless to do or change anything. What’s the point? Why practice? Is it selfish? I remind myself what practicing yoga does for me. It centres and grounds me. It feeds my mind, body and soul!

Yoga is not about being passive, neither is it about creating a safe bubble around ourselves, so that the world doesn’t hurt or affect us . It’s about action and empathy. Feel your sadness, feel your anger, and meet yourself with compassion. Take care of yourself so that you are better equipped to take action.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed and feel frozen - “I’m only one person, what can I realistically do. Do I even have an impact on the world around me.” You do!

Taking action can look like getting informed, find out about the issues that you care about. That might be all you can manage right now and that’s ok.

You can volunteer your time, or raise funds or awareness. You could donate to your favourite charity or cause. You could join protests or boycott certain shops.

You don’t have to do it all, and whatever you can mange is ok. We are all built different and have different things going on in our own lives. What ever little bits you can do is worth doing. Little bits add up.

Looking after yourself physically and emotionally will get you to a place where you feel you can do the thing.

Remember , you come first. You are you’re number 1 priority, and that is not selfish! It is a necessity!

You matter!

Ok luv ya

Bye
